How about another 227?

Friends, it has been a wild summer here at Pisgah Presbyterian Church!  There have been youth activities, tennis games, Baptisms, funerals, vacations, and a lot of heat!  The worship services in the Sanctuary have been wonderful.  But, of course, one topic has dominated most of the conversation around the Pike these days: the roof.  Oh, the things we’ve learned!  Did you know that you have to get approval from the Architectural Review Board for a roof replacement?  Did you know that Tony Raider’s favorite past-time is hauling wood around in his pick-up?  Did you know that Martin Fister is a private detective as a side job?  Did you know that David Prater possesses the ability to age 20 years in one summer?  Wow!

Many of you probably saw the rather large spread in the Herald-Leader letting the world know about our project and our long historical presence here at Pisgah Pike (227 years to be exact).   What a great source of pride that is for us here!  227 years.  That is some serious history.

My prayer for us all this August is that we will see the completion of the roof project as a symbol of our commitment to this place.  Some of the wood that came out of the Sanctuary was from the very beginning (or at least from 1812-after the fire).  What do you think?  Can the beam with all of our names on it last another 227?  Will we grow in that time?  Are we willing to take risks, just as our fore-bearers did, to reach beyond our boundaries and become the gathering point for an entire community?  I think so.  I feel the Spirit moving in this place.  I hear the call to follow wherever the Lord might lead us.  So, how about another 227?  Not the same 227, but a different one with new twists and turns, leaving our mark on the great history of this place.  227 years: Ready…Set…Go!
